To be a pitcher requires a lot of personal effort. Here Candice answers your questions about pitching.
What kind of practice habits should a pitcher have?
To anyone wanting to be successful at pitching you must be willing to practice a couple times a week throwing at least 100 pitches each session. A pitcher will pitch at least that in one game.
If a pitcher wants to pitch competitively what should they do?
Any pitcher that wants to be successful at the competitive level must be prepared to work year round and be able to see a private instructor on a regular basis. To play on a competitive team you have to try out. Try outs are at the end of July and beginning of August, for more information simply send me an email.
How many pitches are there in Fastpitch Softball?
There are only 7 pitches in Fastpitch Softball. The Fastball, Change Up, Slider, Screw Ball, Drop, Rise and Curve.
If there is only 7 pitches then how come some pitchers claim to have more?
There are different locations that each pitch can be thrown to, for example a Fastball can be thrown to both an outside and inside corner. There are also different ways of throwing each pitch, for example a Change Up can be thrown as a knuckle ball, a flip, a push, etc. Since there are several different ways to throw each pitch and several locations, there are actually hundreds of combinations of pitches a pitcher can learn.
How does a pitcher develop both accuracy and speed with out one affecting the other?
Any competitive pitcher should be pitching year round and as such, the pitcher should use the off season(August-January) working on increasing speed and learning new pitches and should use the regular season(February-July) working on accuracy and developing perfection.
Where can we see your current pitching students?
I currently have pitchers in college out of state that are on T.V. at different times through out the season and I will be consistently posting information about where you can view them through out the year.
You can also view my younger girls at competitive tournaments through out the summer, their profiles can be viewed in the section: Student Profiles.
